Info Request

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear of this accident.

How is the little bird acting?

Does it seem lifeless?

Is the breathing regular, or does it seem labored, shallow, slow, or rapid?

Has the mother tried to feed it? If so, how did it respond?
Is the skin normal colored, or does it have a blue or white tinge?

Thank you.

here's the entire scenario.

three days ago i noticed three of the four eggs had hatched, the fourth egg did not hatch, two days later there was a small hole in the egg. i could see the baby's head, however it remained like that for two more days. after researching on the internet i took out the egg and carefully detached the rest of the egg. while doing so the baby chirped a bit, when the baby was out it looked o.k. - breathing o.k.

when i attempted to put the baby back in the nest box i was so nervous my hands were shaking and this is when the baby fell. the baby did not make a sound and was still breathing. when back in the box the mother attended to it and a few minutes later it was together with the other babies but to the bottom.

unfortunately a few hours later i noticed it was not breathing and was still. there were no blue or white tinge and looked normal

Thank you for getting back to me. I want to make sure I understand the present situation. Am I correct that the baby is not breathing now and is still?

Accepted Answer

It appears you went offline before seeing my request for clarification. If I correctly understand what you wrote, unfortunately, the baby bird is either dead or near death. If it's still and not breathing, there won't be anything you can do to help it. It may have been injured in the fall, or it may simply have been in the egg too long. It's possible that it was weak even before hatching, and that's why it couldn't get out of the egg. Birds can have genetic defects that make them unable to survive. Regardless of what happened, don't blame yourself. It sounds like you take very good care of your birds, and the fall was an accident.
