Question

My daughter (in Illinois) is 15 years old. She no longer wants to visit her
Father and Stepmother. She feels her Father is too confrontational and doesn't take the time to listen to her. She feels her social life is being interferred with. She lives with me and my husband. Does she have any rights in a court of law?

Accepted Answer

Yes, she can file a statement with the judge requesting she not be forced to go see her father any more. The law favors visiting both parents, so she probably won't be successfull unless she can show it is in her best interests to NOT see him (she is in danger, etc.) If she files a statement with the court, the court will treat it as a Motion to Modify Child Visitation and then your lawyer can try to convince the judge. Good luck!
