Question

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, Sevice Tag. 3MDCP1J. About a year ago I installed a "Intel PROset/wireless" device to my pc, hoping to improve my connectivity to a wireless signal near me. The device installed OK, but it removed my Microsoft wireless connection.
I have been able to use the Intel device, but now I wish to connect to BT Homehub (English) but cannot achieve this. My pc "sees" the signal but cannot connect & gives an error message - Authentication process to connect to the network hasn't been started - and says - Find the computer wireless software & set it to use Windows XP for your computer wireless setup.
Incidentally, I have been able to connect my Asus notebook pc (standard operating system)without any problems.
How can I connect my Dell? I have e-mail at "XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX.

Optional Information

Computer OS: Windows XP
Browser: IE

Already Tried:
I have been to Microsoft Knowledge base, but I do not understand their advice. (I have little knowledge of computer technology)
I have been to the Dell Support site, and have problem following the support.
Part of the problem is that my internet access is via a "dial up" connection and it cannot cope with the amount of information - hence my wish to get broadband via the BT Home Hub. It looks as if my ASUS notebook has broadband facility now, so I shall use that when I get your reply.

If its a recent problem restore your computer to a date when it was working fine.

Use system restore.
Go to start then all programs then accessories then system tools then system restore then restore my computer to an earlier date.
