OK, thanks for that.
Put it on spin and look at the underside of the machine (you'll need to lie on the floor) and see if you can see sparking.
Don't run it too long.
If you see it sparking then it's most likely the carbon brushes have gone and all you need do is change them. This can be achieved by tipping the appliance rearward about 45 degrees and working from the underside. The alternative is to strip the casing and take the motor out.
If you turn the drum by hand, listen for a clicking noise.
If you hear a clicking noise from the motor then it's likely there is a raised segment on the motor, this would mean replacing the motor.
