I have a Maytag Portable Air Conditioner (Model # SMPEB08F2A). Can this unit be recharged?
The tag says refrigerant charge 13.7 oz. R22.

Yes it can, but may require a fitting brazed into place. Then of course if unit is out of charge you would need to find the leak. This could run a 150-200 dollars. It is about a 2 hour job and would have to be dropped off at an appliance repair place. I am available for follow up

I did not see a fitting on the unit, that's what prompted the question. I have already repaired the point of leakage. I must now find a place to attach the appropriate fitting and recharge it. Any suggestions. Rochester, NY

That is the hard part. This is a factory charge and there are no service ports. It involves using a piercing tool and removing the charge and installing a port OR there are braze saddle service ports that braze onto the line, then a piercing point pierces the system and yo fill from there. Anyway you cut it there has to be a fitting brazed into place. It is a real drag to have to do that, but all window units, refrigerators and portables are that way.
