Question

I have a Rudd Achiever A/C, it failed last week all of the sudden, it is a 2 ton outdoor unit. The tech came out mostly seemed confused and then told me I needed a new compressor. The compressor starts but won't stay running, unit is 5 years old. I think the compressor warranty is 10 years isn't it? If the compressor is actually bad.

I don't have it here, I am at work. It's a 2 ton rudd achiever outside unit is about all I can tell you right now. I have called the guys who looked at it but they haven't called back. Everything I read says the Rudd has a 10 year compressor warranty, they told me 5 years and that it expired a month ago.

first thing would be to check the run capacitor. We need to elimant that as an option before talking replacement. I will check basic warranty and get back with you

ok, compressors were primarily 5 years. Once I knew model I could be more certain. I really want to stress the importance of checking the run capacitor as this is what helps the compressor keep running.

He told me he checked the capacitor but not sure I have much faith in him or that he knew what he was doing. I thought the Rudds ahd a 10 year compressor warranty, that's what there wbsite says

They have extended warrantys available, and maybe your model was different. If you do get that model I can find out. The tech could take an amp draw of the compressor also to see how much power it was pulling. For the money, I would still try the capacitor. It is a difference of 50 bucks or a thousand....
