Optional Information

Year: 1985
Make: Chevrolet
Model: corvette
Engine: 350

Already Tried:
checked fuel filter checked fuel injectors pulled exhaust from cataletic back I thought because it would not hold an idle and I also got a flame out of the mufflers that melted the paint that something was clogged in the exhaust. Every thing looks okay in the cateltic but I can't see into the mufflers but when I picked up the mufflers alot of black carbon poured out could they be clogged causing the flames and not letting the car idle?

Accepted Answer

Normally a restriction in the exhaust is caused by a catalytic converter, but anything in the exhaust that restricts air flow can cause the vehicle to run rough. If the vehicle is not running right it can backfire and have a flame, but this normally doesn't happen.
