Question

2001 Passat V6 Timing belt will not stay tensioned. My tech replaced the water pump in a customers Passat and of course we replaced the timing belt tensioner, belt, and rollers ect... He took the car on a three mile test drive and came back only to hear a flapping noise. Timing belt had loosened. You can take the tensioner and turn clockwise on the tensioner to loosen and stays loose (other words will not go back). I ordered another tensioner and did the job myself and tightened the roller to 43ft lbs. Three miles later same problem. What gives

Could you elaborate please? The tensioner is a hydraulic ram that pushes on an arm that in turn pushes on a roller. That roller only has one allen bolt. It is tight!
