Answer
Hi XXXXXXXX. Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.
Make sure the wires on the coil are connected tight. They like to come loose by themselves.

Ok, is there anything else I can do to make sure it will start?

Answer
Make sure the choke is working.
Try spraying starter fluid into the carb to see if it runs a little while.
That way you'll know if its a fuel problem or electrical problem. Can you smell gas...

The choke is working fine. Yes, the gas is coming through. I haven't tried the starter fluid yet. What are the other possibilities of it not working?

Answer
It could be the condenser.
Are you sure the plug wires are in the right sequence...

Yes, I'm sure the plug wires are in the right sequence. We tried 2 different distributors and neither worked. Are there any other possibilities?

Answer
The (firing order) is stamped right under the generator mount on type 1 engines.
When you crank the engine over, is there spark when you pull a distributor wire spark plug wire?

Yeah, The plug wires are in the right sequence. I don't understand why the engine won't start. I purchased it brand new and the guy said he ran the engine before he sold it to me. Any other possibilities?

Answer
Unless the engine is flooding with gas, the timing must be far off.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It's probably the timing. Are there any other possibilities? I'll accept and pay you after this last question. I appreciate the help

Answer
The other possibility is that the spark is too weak to start the engine because of the coil.
Usually if the spark was strong enough, it would backfire.

That's all the possibilities?
Accepted Answer
If it starts with starting fluid, and you smell gas in the carb, the engine is probably being flooded. I would pull a plug and see how it looks.
The timing spark might be too advanced to start the engine.
