Question

My dog, a mix between a rotweiler/german shepard/chow, has been developing a re-occuring rash on her gential region, and on her belly area, that resembles ring worm. I have taken her to the vet three times before for the same condition, the first time they gave me a cream to put on what they called 'ringworm', the next two times I was given pills for her to take. Upon treatment with the pills, the rash went away, but has been coming back each time. Both times they gave me Cephalexin 550 mg. I don't know how or why this rash keeps coming back. I am open to any suggestions as to what the rash may be, and what could keep it coming back. Thanks, Shaun

Answer

You are describing a bacterial infection or a staph pyoderma. A suggestion would be to give an antibiotic like Clavamox (stronger than Cephalexin) for 6-8 weeks to eliminate the problem.
A shampoo twice weekly like Mallaseb or Sulfoxydex might also be of benefit
If the above does not help, this might be allergy related
