Question
My cat (bengal female, neutered, 3 years old) has in her left eye a splodge of blood (or something blood-coloured which stands out against the green of her eye). It's near the corner nearest her nose, but not completely in the corner - it's an island of red with green all around it. It hasn't healed for at least a week since I first saw it, if anything it may be more distinct. She has some discharge underneath the eye, but she often gets this. Her right eye is all green. I think too that she has lost some weight. She's never been fat, but when stroking her, I could feel her bones. I noticed this before I spotted the blood, and at the time put it down to her possibly getting more exercise in the warm summer. Should I be worried? Can't get to a vet until Monday. Could the splodge be a burst blood vessel? We believe she had a little accident several weeks ago: her collar was found hanging caught high in a tree. Or a fight? Her brother bullies her very badly.
should add she isn't behaving any differently than normal. My mother doesn't want to take her to the vet and incur the checkup fee. She's happy to wait. Should I worry?

Answer
Hi again, and thanks for your reply, Matt.
I understand what you're saying. Clubs ARE difficult places to communicate, even if you have perfect hearing; it's usually very loud, so try other types of clubs, bars, cafes, where the atmosphere is more mellow, intimate, quiet, perhaps with soft music, not blasting loud music.
If you haven't tried meeting ladies online, that might be a good avenue for you to pursue, because it's a really good way to get to know a person before actually meeting in person. By the time you set up a meeting in person, you'll feel comfortable, knowing things about her, knowing she's single, and you'll have told her things about yourself, too. However, remember, anyone can say anything and be who they 'want' to be on the internet, so you'll have to be sure she's telling you the truth about herself, and also, before meeting in person, it would be good to talk on the phone, if you feel comfortable doing that. When you make up to meet, always do it in a public place, like a cafe or restaurant, not at either of your homes.
Would it be possible to find out where your ideal lady from the past, is, at this time (the football manager's daughter)? If you can track her down, maybe she's not married and you can pick up where you left off. Just an idea...
Earlier you mentioned, it being 'risky' to ask out these ladies you may meet in your everyday life. Why is it risky? The worst that can happen is that you find out they're not single/available. If there are any organizations (religious, activities you like, like dancing, singing, singles around your age, etc.) in your area, check them out and start going to events or meetings and there, you can meet ladies who share your interests.
This is a gradual process and can't be rushed, so take things slowly, find some places where you feel comfortable talking to women, and follow your instincts. Be yourself, be confident, be complimentary, and I'm sure the ladies will find you attractive.

Hello again,
I'm very sorry, this was an answer for a customer in relationships, obviously.
My answer to you seems to have gotten lost. I will repost it, now.
Thanks,

Hello,
Again, I apologize for the mix-up; somehow the wrong answer got posted to your question.
The symptom you describe with a blood spot in your cat's eye, may have been caused by injury to the eye itself, which she incurred or from her brothers' rough play or interaction with another 'critter' outside, or, possibly if she WAS hanging for any period of time, by her collar when it got caught in the tree, this did cause a burst blood vessel. There's no doubt that this needs to be evaluated by the vet, in person, and please convey the importance of this to your mother. Once she's diagnosed, she will be treated, if needed.
If your cat is eating, drinking and eliminating as usual, she's active/alert and doing all her regular everyday routine activities, it should be alright to wait until Monday to have her seen by the vet. If, between now and Monday, she exhibits any unusual symptoms and/or the blood spot grows, she should be seen by an ER vet center, for assessment.
When you see the vet, discuss your concern over her seeming to loss weight. While Bengals are 'lean' cats, if she is losing weight, she may need a dietary change and/or supplements.
If she is very stressed due to her brothers' bullying, try to keep her separated from them and also, your cats may benefit from a cat appeasing pheromone called Feliway/Comfort Zone for Cats, which comes in both a spray and plug-in diffuser. It's available at major pet supply stores, and also online. The diffuser resembles a plug-in air freshener, but has no scent to humans. Feliway helps to relax stressed or anxious cats, and is useful in a multitude of situations. For more information, please see:
www.catfaeries.com/feliway.html
I hope all will be well with your beautiful, furry girl (I LOVE Bengals!), once she's diagnosed and treated by the vet.

Hello again,
I was wondering if you were able to have your cat seen by the vet, how she's doing now, and what the findings were. If you could let me know, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,

Hi, we took Dominique to the vet just three hours ago. The vet says she has conjunctivitis in that eye (the discharge) and has given us some drops to put in her left eye (easier said than done).
The splodge in her eye has moved closer to the side of her eye. The vet found it very strange, didn't seem to have seen anything like it before. She says it's definitely not a scratch - it's a change in the actual pigment of the eye. She told us it was a good thing it wasn't black, because that could mean cancer. She told us it c
ould
be a burst blood vessel, but didn't say much which is making us worried about what else it could be. We're to bring Dominique in again in a week to see if it has changed again.
I was right about the weight loss - Dominique has gone from 4 kilos to 3.6 since her last trip to the vet a few months ago. The vet suggested that maybe it's her brother's bullying (if she lets him get close enough, he leaps on her from behind and sinks his teeth into the middle of her spine) that is causing her to eat less, but he's been doing it since they were 5 months. She has refused some of her canned food lately, but we assumed she was getting a bit fussy, as she still managed to swallow enough tuna to fill a truck yesterday.
Thanks for encouraging me to take her to the vet. Now I just have to hope that the splodge will have disappeared by next week. And that she'll be complacent regarding receiving the conjunctivitis drops, which is not very likely. We're hoping to either catch her when she's sleeping or distract her with tuna. We've also ordered some of the calming spray and plug in to reduce her anxiety and that of our other, older, female cat. And hopefully the spray might make Dominique's brother less aggressive and also stop his own unpleasant new habit of spraying!

Answer
Hi again, and thanks very much for your reply.
You're most welcome, and I'm so glad you were able to have Dominique evaluated in person by the vet. There is a condition called iris melanoma, which appears like 'freckles' in the iris (colored part), and this may be what the vet was referring to, i.e. cancer. If the splodge is moving within her eye, it doesn't sound like this condition.

I know it's difficult to administer eye drops to cats, but maybe these instructions will be helpful:
http://www.myvetonline.com/website/layout.jsp?section=eyecare_cat&userId=5810
Yes, trying to do it right after she wakes up, she'll be most relaxed. If one of you can hold her wrapped in a towel, with only her head sticking out, and the other can put in the drops, that should work out well.
Also, here is more information re: conjunctivitis in cats:
http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/conjunctivitis.html
I'm glad you ordered the Feliway spray and plug-in, and hopefully, that will help with Dominique's anxiety and her brother's aggressiveness; yes, it should also help with his spraying, but if he's neutered, he might be spraying territorially as he sounds like the 'dominant' cat. Try to prevent him from attacking Dominique so mercilessly. When you see him do this, shake a can of coins or pebbles, out of his sight, to startle him so he stops and also we want him to associate the noise with his actions, not with YOU. This will most likely startle Dominique and your older female, also, which we don't want to do, but if it works and you're consistent with it, hopefully we can modify his behavior so he leave Dominique alone. Clean the areas he's sprayed with an enzymatic product like Nature's Miracle or Zero Odor, to completely remove the odor/stain.
The weight loss is of concern, and some blood work would help identify any underlying medical problems, if they are present, but for the moment, continue to feed her what she likes to eat, as long as it's healthy, and ask the vet if she would benefit from a nutritional supplement which would help her get extra calories. Cat Sure is a good one, usually used in senior cats, but ask your vet about it. I have a feeling you're not located in the USA, but here's info re: this product, and also Nutri-Cal, which is another supplement that adds calories and energy. I'm sure if you're located in the UK, Canada, or another country, you can find something similar, if not this exact product:
http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/1426-CatSure.aspx?a=google&gclid=CM_D0ZbP05sCFQIxxgodsXNHjw
It should be available in major pet supply stores as well as online.
I hope all will be well with Dominique and your other kitties.
