Question

I have an 18 year old poodle. She was diagnosed with a
collapsing trachea on August 11,2005. The vet
prescribed Theophylline. On August 23, 2005 she had a
seizure. We took her to the vet and he gave her
enalapril. 4 hours after we gave her the first dose,
we were rushing her to the emergency clinic where they
diagnosed her as having CHF and a stroke. Now, she is
taking Salix, Theophylline and Prednisilone. Yesterday
she had 3 seizures, the third one was only about 20
seconds after the first. Is there anything that we can
do as far as diet? The vet won't give her anything for
the seizures (they all were convulsive, not absence)
and now she is doing "circles" literally walking in
continuous circles, the same direction, for hours on
end. Can you offer any explanation as to why she is
doing these circles? People are always willing to
offer up opinions, and a woman in the vet's office
said that her "circles" was another form of a seizure.
Is this true? Any information you could offer would be
greatly appreciated. I am not looking to over rule my
vet, just trying to get another perspective. A
"second opinion" if you will. Thank you.
Kim this is for you.....check for spelling on the
medicine, I don't know if I spelled them right, and
feel free to add anything that I missed. Don't forget
to delete this stuff that I wrote to you before you
copy and paste!!!hahaha
talk to ya later, could you give me a wake up call at
7:30 pm? thank you!!!
Let me know if ya find anything out, and if its ok to
stop over for lunch. I don't have to, I really don't
want to wake her up.She needs all the sleep she can
get right now

Answer

It's not uncommon for dogs to circle after seizure activity. They usually come out of it as they adjust to the meds.

There is an interesting article that describes a holistic approach to seizures that I want you to read:

http://www.drschoen.com/articles_L2_14_.html

Then I want you to take a look at this website that has everything you ever wanted to know about seizures and MORE:

http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/site_map.htm

Then let me know if you still have specific questions.
