Question

I have been having right upper quad pain. Ultra sound showed gallbladder o.k. Commom bile duct 11.5 mm. (enlarged) I have also been having some nausea and loose stools. All labs O.K. I have had Pancreatitis twice in the past.   No elevated enzyme levels. I have scleroderma. Any ideas. I am schedualed for an EGD and will have an ERCP in the next few weeks (when the doc returns from vacation).

I have had the pain for three weeks now. there is no lumps or mass. The pain is located right under the rib cage on the right in the center. It radiates to my back. It has gotten progessively worse over the last three weeks. It even hurts if I lift my right arm. I have problems sleeping due to increased pain when lying down.

Accepted Answer

Thank you for the detail input.

The tenderness or pain in the right upper quad can be from acid peptic disease, liver, gall bladder, pancreatic disease, muscular pull etc. Sometimes pleural pain of the lung can be referred here. Usually gallbladder, pancreatitis or peptic ulcer pain goes to back. When gall bladder problem has been excluded by ultrasonography & HIDA scan , peptic ulcer & pancreatitis need to be tested. The presence of ulcers can be the cause of your pain. H. pylori test can be taken too.

Hope this information will help you.
Wish your early recovery.
Any query, please ask.
Regards.
