Question

My Devon Rex, 13 years old, has recently been over grooming and now is completely bare under her neck almost ear to ear. Also several parts of her body are very thin in fur. Two vets and over $300.00 in fees and I have no answer. In March we lost her older friend to old age and I believe this could be part the issue. She lost weight and is just beginning to regain some back.

Info Request

Hi there,

I am so sorry for the loss of your older kitty. My sincerest condolences.

Did the overgrooming start shortly after her friend passed?

What does she eat?

How much weight did she lose?

Thanks,

Terri

yes, weight loss and grooming was soon after the other cat died. Currently I'm combining a weight loss dry food with Max Cat Senior.
She was exclusive to the weight loss food and I was trying to get her off gradually.

Dear friend,

I am sorry your girl is having trouble.

Her food may be the culprit. PLEASE READ:

She may have food allergies:

These brands below, are well-recommended and contain nothing artificial, plus, contain meat as the first, or within the first three ingredients:

Wellness (http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/

Felidae (http://www.canidae.com/

Innova (http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=inn-home

Newman's Own Organics (http://www.newmansownorganics.com/pet/home/

Natural Balance (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catformulas/NB_CatCanned.html

It sounds like Alopecia:

Besides the diet change get her a Feliway Plug-in:

A shot of depo medrol may also help.

Please let me know how she is doing.

Best wishes for her,

Terri
