Sounds like it shorted out the charging system ,did any of the fuses blow?

Ok as soon as you turn on the key the lights stay on ,does the car start

Yes, the warning buzzer sounds off intermittently for a short spell and stops. The vehicle runs just fine.

OK sounds like the alternator got shorted out ,you need to have the charging system checked to see if thats the issue but from what you desrcibed it either shorted the alternator or fuse box
