Question

My cooker model SUK61CPX5 has a spit. I find this difficult to use as the forks are so small and light weight. I would like to be able to buy larger and more substantial forks with butterfly nuts that would fix on to the same rod and hold the food more firmly. Have you any suggestions?

Answer

Hi

The Forks are small and light weight so that you do not over load the spit.

The rotisserie motor is not very powerful and replacing the forks with larger ones to secure the food firmly would result in more weight.

Plus the fact of putting larger items of food on the spit.

All this would put too much strain on the motor and cause it to burn out.

Thank you for trying to answer my question about the Smeg spit. Many years ago I had a Cannon Spit with decent strong forks. I used this for years until it died.

The Smeg ones are pretty poor compared with those and I don't agree that slightly heavier ones would not work. If I had a small bird the bigger forks would be OK. They also need butterfly nuts to fix on the rod to hold the poultry properly. Smeg have just not got it right. All I want is to know how to find bigger forks to fit the rod. Another improvement would be to have four forks so two small birds could be spit roasted at once. I feel Smeg have put the spit in the oven for amusement rather than cooking! Regards, XXXX.

From my experience of Smeg Ovens (15 Years as a main agent in the north west) the spit and the motor are not up to the job, i have fitted many modifications that Smeg have come up with over the years and they have still not got it right. The rotis motor is just not powerful enough, its not protected and gets full of grease from the oven.
To be honest it is just there so they can say hey "Rotisserie included"
My best advice is to get used to the ones you have as you could end up doing more damage than good

Two birds at once would definately damage the motor, as for wing nuts , you should have got some with the oven to fit the original forks.
