Question

I have a Trane Central Air Conditioner. The model Number is TTP042D100A with a TWE048C100A air handler in my actic. I have had the unit for 9 years. This year when I set the temp on hold at 70 degreed or less the air handler stops pushing air. It seems like it freezes over. Is there something I can do to fix this? Do I need to clean the air handler?

I also need an owners manual. Is there one available on line from Trane?

Thanks for your assiatnce. Ed Hiledbrandt

Hi,

No you won't get one from Trane online , you will have to call them unless you luck out on the net but typically they aren't out there.

If the unit is freezing over it indicates one of two things, a loss of sufficient air flow or it is low on refrigerant, typically it means it's low on refrigerant unless your filter is very dirty.

Thanks

OK, I believe I have insufficient air flow causing the freeze over. Is this unit repairable/ Does the air handler need to be cleaned or lubricated? What should I do? I have already had the refrigerant checked and it is OK.

Thanks

Mark,

Can I clean the airhandler to improve air flow???

Answer

Hi,

Sorry for the delay,

Cleaning it generally doesn't do much for airflow unless its the blower wheel that is clogged up with built up dust on the wheel blades. If it is an airflow problem make sure all the registers are open and none of the return air vents are pinched down if its flexible duct in the attic.

Thanks

Mark
