Question

I am licensed massage therapist in Florida. My patient had a prescription for therapy and provided me with all necessary insurance information. I found, after submission of all services, that my patient's deductible had not been met and therefore he was responsible for payment. I tried to settle with him for a fraction of the bill, and now i am being ignored. The bill is $840, however, I offered to take $670 in monthly installments. He is now ignoring me. I have detailed medical records and his signature on all insurance bills. I want to report him to credit bureau, do i have to go through small claims court first?

Thank you for your question.

I would file in small claims first. The court clerk will have all the forms you need in the county where you live. It's a pretty easy process, all things considered, that you can do on your own. The sheriff can serve the former client, and you will pick a date in the near future according the court's calendar to appear in front of a judge and determine the outcome. Just have all your invoices, etc. ready to go.

You can go to the credit bureaus whenever you want. That won't make the client pay, however.

I hope this helps. Be sure to click ACCEPT so that I can get credit for this answer. As always, if you have additional questions after clicking ACCEPT, I will be happy to follow up with you.
