Question

I have a 1995 mercury grand marque, 4.6L, when you just get going and the engine is warming up, the car some times hesitates and acts like it is lacking gas, if you play with the gas pedal it seems like all at once you get going. I have replaced the throttle control, What else should I be looking at?

Hello and welcome to justanswer.com

When you say throttle control do you mean the throtte position sensor? Is the check engine light on? Is the hesitation only on acceleration from a stop?

I replaced the throttle posistion sensor unit, also the check engine light IS NOT ON, it only happens after you start the car, and while warming up while driving.

Answer

Ok sounds like you have a problem with the mass air flow sensor mounted behind the air cleaner. Disconnect it and drive the vehicle. If it runs and drives better then you have a faulty MAF sensor.

Sorry for not getting back to you, we had a out of town emergency. I did unplug the mass sensor, no change. When it gets about a third of the way warm, I have the motor hesitate, like it is not getting enough gas. Any other ideals ?

Accepted Answer

I see alot of problems with the ignition wires causing the miss and hesitation. This is usually under load. Sometimes you can spray a mist of water on the wires to see if the engine starts missing. Also even though the engine light is not on you should still see if any fault codes are logged. You will need a scan tool to do this. I recommend that you try your local parts store or autozone as they will usually do this at no charge.
