Question

On a 1992 BMW 325is, the chime signalling ambient temperature increases or decreases in the 37-43F range continues to chime during running an when the ignition is off. 24 hours so far, no drawdown on the battery. When the fuse is pulled, the a/c won't engage.

How can I stop the chime?

Pulling the fuse. Turning a/c on and off. Turning blower on and off. A/c won't engage if fuse pulled. Blower still works.

Answer

Hi, well it's normal for it to chime only 1 time when it hits 37f, as an ice warning.
The chimes I believe are in the upper kick panel above the pedals.
While the chime is going off, unplug 1 at a time until it stops.

I disabled the chimes in my car as well, they are annoying to me as well.

Will take this info to my trusted mech, not dealer. See if he wants to get into the "kick panel". The same is not in any index I have in the Dealer's Manual. You said "I believe" where the chimes are. Is there not a reference that says, "They are there.". And where is "kick panel" in my Owner's Manual?

What will be "unplugged" if we find the "kick panel"? Is it like a fuse box?

Thank you for your response, and we will talk.

And are you "Mike" with 100% positive response?

Tom. (I love the old Beamers, and Old Women, but sometimes both are off the charts.)

OK, I hit a wrong button (the "Dragged Thumb" theory). Anyway, the printout says that the fuse that controls the chime, is also integrated into the "Integrated Climate Regulation (1HKR E36)" which sounds like the a/c is also part of that fuse part. My OM says naught about the a/c integration with chimes, blower, etc..

I will get back to you as soon as I can get my mech to give it a go. Anything, Anybody but the Dealer.

Thanks so far.

Yes, the chime speaker is in that trim/kick panel, if you look below the steering wheel you should see the holes for it.
Here is a good link for removing the panel, and unplugging the chime speaker.
