Question

Why won't my car start? I have a 2002 325i BMW. Got the car a little over a yr ago. Two wks after I got it, it wouldn't start and the dealer had it fix (alternator). No problem for about a year. About 2 wks ago, the car wouldn't start and I was told the battery had a dead cell and about every 18hrs it would go out. So I got a new battery, but had to take it back a week later b/c the fan kept running when the car was off. So, I got a new fan; and about 4 days later, it wouldn't start again, so it's back in the shop. The car shop deals only in foreign cars, but it seems they don't know what's going on. Do you have any ideas?

Answer

If you mean the a/c/ heat blower, then you will likely need a blower final stage. If the blower is still staying on with the key off then it will need to be replaced.
The blower stage, controls the voltage to the fan to change speed. They tend to fail alot.

It's located on the right side of the heater box, under the dashboard.

Yes I meant they replaced the a/c/heat blower, sorry I called it a fan. So the battery, alternator and ac/heat blower have all been replaced and still my car won't start.

Answer

Ok, but have they replaced the controller for fan? It's called the blower final stage. This would cause the fan to run with the key off.

talked with the mechanic and asked about the blower final stage and they never even heard of it. They said that they would look for, b/c they don't know where it's located.

Answer

The blower final stage is located on the right side of the heater box under the dash, need to removed the glovebox, air vent, stepper motor and mount. Tell them to be careful, the stepper motor mount has small tabs that can break.
