Question

I just installed a Honeywell RTH5100B thermostat. I get hot air in both Function 2 settings? What am I doing wrong? I have a heat pump.

Did you connect the wiring as shown on page 11 & 12 of this manual and read and follow the triangle notes

Well the reversing valveis not switching I get right back to you reading

Did you set function 1 to heat pump

Yes, I switched it heaternstill on in both modes............. haven't been able to try heater, temp over 90

Well there is sometime wrong with the reversing valve wiring and the configeration of the function's

It was working fine before I changed it, it is also running in the off mode as well, just relized this

The unit running in off mode then wiring is shorted somewhere

when I remove the control panel it turns off

Well that would make sense what about if you remove the thermostat wiring does it shut of then least that will tell us which way the short is try the R terminal first

I went and looked at the wiring on the control panel the orange wire is attached to the O terminal and the white is attached to the W... should I attach the orange wire to the O on the thermastat

Yes it should be the same as the control board and I think you just found your problem
