Question

I have a Trane 1000, which is 18 years old. The Compressor shorted out - needs to be replaced. Its a 10 SEER unit. The gent (who is a friend of a friend) and has been in the HVAC business for 9 years has quoted me a replacement unit (just condensor/outside unit) which a 13 SEER. He states that the Fan Housing won't freeze up. What do you think?

I dont see a problem operationally with a 10 seer evap coil and 13 seer condenser as long as he puts a txv in for the metering device. Of coursr with a 10 seer and a 13 seer you will actually be around 11 seer total efficiency. If the 13 seer condenser gets installed at least put in a txv. Of course for 200 more you could have the whole set
