Hi Dr I have a 1 yr old fixed male kitten named Smudge a week ago he began to have some coughing spells 2-3 time in 3 days   they were pretty strong as it made his heart pound but no hair ball so i made an appt with our current vet who say him thurs night she thoroughly examined him and then did chest exray and bloodwork and urine analysis then gave him a shot of antibiotics and anantiinflammatory b/c the xray said his lung were quite cloudy and he had a slight fever! she gave him antibiotics to take daily !!! when she got the lab results she called me and sz he has severe asthma nd must be immediately put on prednilosone daily and then entually an in haler!!1 he now again is symptom free from the night i brought him home til now not even a slight wheeze nor has he ever before those few episodes i dont feel good about this what do you think?

I'm so sorry your cat is sick.

Your post doesn't quite add up to me, either. As you know, unless your cat had labored breathing enough to raise his temp, or was very stressed, he shouldn't have an elevated temp with asthma, nor should he need antibiotics. Temp should be rechecked.

Asthma causes unique lung changes, although some cats will have normal x-rays. It is not diagnosed by blood work, although blood work can help rule out other causes.

A second opinion may be in order.

It may be asthma, but could be something else. I would recommend your cat have (if he hasn't already) a cbc, chem, urinalysis, felv, fiv and heartworm tests, plus a fecal float and a fecal baermann to look for lungworm eggs.
