Answer
Good morning. This is a very short description of what is happening with your 10 year old dog, however, it is enough to indicate that he needs to be taken in to see a veterinarian right away as soon as your vet's office opens. There could be any of a large number of reasons for these vague problems. The most serious thing you describe is that he is breathing heavy in addition to not eating or drinking. Please get him to your vet's office right away today when they open. If it is going to be many hours before they open, I would consider taking him to an emergency facility. I hope this is helpful. You didn't phrase any question in your post so if there was a specific question you had that I didn't answer, please let me know. I will be happy to answer any other questions you have about this. I hope your dog feels better soon.

Monday morning when I left for work, Herny was fine. When I came home at night, he displayed the symptoms I already described. In addition, he was drooling some, and has been very lethargic. Despite this, he walks to all parts of the house (but slowly), climbs stairs and even jumps up to beds. He seems alert in that he is following his normal routine such as getting me up at 6 a.m. this morrning to go outside; and when my wife gave him some water in a little cup (as she usually does when she's getting ready for work) he drank some, but threw it up several minutes later. (That was the first water he took, despite our efforts to get him to drink). The only evidence of anything usual I can find around house, was a deposit of wet vomit near is daily sleeping place in the basement. I examined it and it appeared to have in it the remains of a paper towel or napkin amid food remains. Henry has a habit of chewing paper napkins and tissues, but this appeared at an unusal time. My wife thinks he may have picked up a paper item on the street when she was walking him Sunday night. Right now, his breathing remains heavy and he is lethargic, which are his main symptoms. He does not appear to be in any pain, which I determined by examining him closely. Thanks!

Everything you describe further supports my recommendation to get him in for evaluation. The vet will probably want to get an xray with the history of foreign material ingestion and vomiting. Please let me know if you have more questions about this.
