A tutrix account was set up when i was 17 under my mothers name for me. I find myself in a situation where i need access to those funds. Are there any legal avenues i can take to have her name removed from the account now that i am 23. The account was set up with money from the settlement of a car accident that i was involved in. I remember the check coming in my name and my parents mentioning that they HAD to put the money in an intrest yeilding account. the money was then placed into a mutual fund account with XXXXXX XXXXX.

talking to an XXXXXX XXXXX advisor, who would ive me no information whatso ever. reasoning with my parents, which is like talking to a wall

I have some bad news for you. The money was supposed to be truned over to you when you reached 18. That probably means that your parents used the money and it is gone. You can check with the probate court in your county to see if they have a record of the case and how much money was involved. Other than that there is little that you can do if your parents will not give you any information.

i know the money is still in the account because i recently opened one of the statements because the envelop was addressed to me. The account was opened with 10000 dollars in 2003, there is now approx. 17000 in the account. Assuming that the money is still there is there anything i can do?

If the money is in the account it is yours. It became yours at the age of 18. Take your ID to the local XXXXXX XXXXX agency and ask for the information.
