Question

I inherited a 2000 Polaris jet ski. It was winterized in Nov 06 (ran then) but hasn't been in the water since. Bought new battery and it ran it (dry land) although it didn't want to stay running. Put in new plugs and cleaned some things up and ran better. Took to the river and ran it int he water about 15 minutes - then it wouldn't stay running. I've drained gas, cleaned hoses to carb & fuel filter. I can start it when I add gas to carb but it dies as soon as gas is gone. It doesn't seem to be continually getting gas. Any suggestions?

<p>Hello XXXXXXXXXX, </p><p>If adding fuel to the carb makes it run than that indicates a problem with the fuel delivery. It could be a clogged fuel tank vent. Try running it with the fuel tank cap off to see if it makes a difference. It could be a problem with the fuel pump. Try removing the return line from the carbs back to the fuel tank and crank the starter. Fuel should trickle out of the return fitting on the pump. If that checkes good then that leaves an internal problem with the carbs. Most likely clogged fuel passages from old fuel varnish. It will require removal of the carbs, disassembly, spotlessly cleaning all components, reassembly with new gaskets and reinstalling with final adjustment. </p><p> </p><p>If this answer was helpful please click accept and leave positive feedback.
