Texas rules are:

No permit or license is required to own any handgun or long gun. Concealed carry is by permit only. Non-residents can also apply for a permit. Machine guns are controlled only by federal laws. In addition, no CHL is required if you carry a gun in your vehicle (i.e. your glove box).
