Question

I am 20 years old. My grandmother has no intentions of using the money to pay off my student loans or sending me back to school with the money I was left. It was specified in the will that the money was to be left strictly for my schooling.

Answer

Dear Friend,

I understand from your question that it is your Grandmother's will and she is still alive.

Please note that when a person prepares a Will, that same is to be enforced after the person's death not when he/she is alive.

In your case, if this is your grandmother's will and she is still alive, the same can be demanded for only after her death. While she is still alive, she has the option to make any changes to it. Neither you can force her to spend the money your way even if it is in the Will when she is alive.

I hope the above helps...
Regards,

The money was left for me by a lady that my grandmother used to work for. The lady is now deceased. My grandmother has no intentions of using the money for my education as it was intented by the deceased. The money is set up in a 529 plan and she is more than willing to take the penalty for removing money for her own use.
