Answer

Hello!

This is a common problem on Honda CRVs.

The problem lies within the door switch and the latches.

Honda has issued a service bulliten addressing this issue.

It's hard to tell without being there, but the latches need to be adjusted so the door will close completely and push the switch all the way in. The switch itself may need to be adjusted slightly as well.

What happens is over time, opening and closing the door over and over again, the latches move slightly and no longer allow the door to close enough to push the switch all the way in, thus keeping the light on the dash on.

I know the cause, the Question is How do I fix It?

Accepted Answer

First and foremost, spray the latch down with wd-40 or other penetrating oil

The switch is inside the door panel. to check the connections on the door switch, you need to remove the door panel.

if all the connections are tight, and the latch closes the door all the way, but the light still stays on, then either the switch is bad, or the door itself is out of adjustment, which will have to be corrected by either a body shop or the dealer.

thank you!
