Question

Installing 15 foot round Intex frame above ground pool over asphalt. the manufacturer does Not recommend installing on concrete or ashphalt but this is where it has to go.

The handyman is planning on building a wood frame one foot larger than the pool and putting down sand or the diatomaceous earth.

Intex pools you are supposed to put a thin protective cloth under them during install. They don't call for sand. you just need level ground within an inch. lay down the ground tarp and install over that.

So should I still put the ground cloth over the sand?

What type of sand? or DE?

How many tons or inches thick do I need delivered for 15 foot round.

There are also low areas next to the asphalt where it was dug away for a previous pool. Dirt in those areas. How to bring that to level?

Hi XXXXXXXXXX;

The wood frame is not needed. The sand is. You will need about 2-3 inches under the pool wherever there is contact with the ground.

As for the low points just fill with moist dirt and compact it well with your feet. Add about an inch of extra sand there.

Use what they call 'Clean Masons Sand'

Anything else may have small stones that can tear the liner and cause a leak.

You will need about 2 tons (average scoop from a supply yards tractor is equal to one ton, as well as being pretty close to a square yard) to do the job right. One may work but it is better to have extra than not enough in this case.

Please post any other concerns here.

Best, THS
