To resolve the problem you are facing, we will need a Windows Vista disc and start the computer from the disc.

Since you do not have the disc with you, there is an option to create a repair disc for vista using the steps mentioned in the following link

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-make-a-windows-vista-repair-disk-if-you-dont-have-one/

Let me know when you created the disc so that I can follow up further

CAN I BUY AT STAPLES OR OFFICE DEPOT

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can buy a disc from Staples or using the following link

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=Windows+Vista&cid=17821846373588325124&sa=title#p

With the disc, you will need to do the following:

1 Boot from the Windows Vista DVD and then click Next at the first prompt:

To start the computer from the DVD, you need to press F12 during system startup and select your CD/DVD drive as the first boot device

You will see a prompt like the following:

Press any key to boot from CD/DVD.....

Press Enter here

Click Next

2 You should see a link in the lower left-hand side for “Repair your computer”

3 The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory. If there’s more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.

4 Click the first link for “Startup Repair”

If the above fails, start the computer from the DVD again.

At step 4, select Command Prompt

Once in the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter

bootrec /fixboot

Please let me know if it does not help so that I can follow up further

Thanks
