Question

I have a 2008 Silverado 4X4 EXT cab/standard bed. I have the XM/RDS/SingleDisk/AM/FM radio with active Onstar. I want to know if there are different typs of NAV radio options for these vehicles. I know that one is with a Bose amplifier/speaker system. Is there one that does not use the Bose system? I would like to install one of the NAV systems. I know that I would have to add an antenna, I have the GM service manual set, and I know that the BCM will need programming. If there is not a NAV system that does not require the Bose additonal amps and speakers for sound, what is the part number. The service manuals do not reflect any part numbers at all!! Which is ridiculous for it's purpose. Only RPO codes, and they are quite vague. If the only NAV system available requires an entire Bose upgrade, is there a way to jump the pre-amp to the internal amp of the NAV radio to acheive 2 channel stereo without the complete surround and subwoofer. Is the NAV itself programmable for this?

Answer

here is what to do if you want NAV. the only parts you will need is the NAV radio and the GPS module which will go underneath the panel by the defrost grille (it will already have a bracket there for the GPS module) the GPS is about $100. now the only way to get a part number for a NAV radio is you are going to have to find a 2008 module with the NAV radio, take that VIN number to a GM dealer, then have the tech at the GM dealer to program your radio with the RPO codes from that VIN. thats all you need to do. good luck. and please accept my answer. thanks T-MAN

But what about the Bose...I am uderstanding that you need this installed also or you will not get audio.

Accepted Answer

NAV does not need RPO UQA to work, when they program the radio for NAV the will have a option for UQA (Bose) or UQ3/UQ5 (up level). good luck. and please accept my answer. thanks T-MAN

He was sooooo right...had to finally drag it out of the dealer a good contact with eledc tech/ Spemco supplies these units. All for about $1600 vs. the $2700 that the dealer wanted PLUS the cost of the Bose system.
