Question

1998 M- Roadster's were manufactured w/o any rear end adjustment for camber etc. My tires wear on the inside edges (down to the steel belt's) after about 4,000 mi. I've heard there's an after market kit available somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, XXXXXX

Sorry that you have been waiting so long there is a after market kit for camber plates. I have listed two sites that you can purchase these items for your car. If you have any other question please let me know. Thanks.

Answer

It looks like you are looking for a rear camber adjustment. There is actually not one built in from the factory. It is possible to buy aftermatket eccentric bushings for the rear trailing arms arms but that is the only way to adjust the rear suspension.

Bavarian Autosport sells this kit. Just search under your vehicle/rear suspension.

Optimize rear camber to maximize performance or tire wear. Bavarian Autosport's adjustable rear camber correction kit lets you fine-tune camber to suit your purpose, whether it's better handling at the track or prolonging the life of your rear tires--especially important if you have lowered you BMW's chassis or installed 'plus size' wheels. Kit comes with a handy tool for installation and removal of bushings.

Thank's for the reply. I really am lost re: this area of the car. There are eccentric bushings, Camber/caster plates, suspension kit's? I just can visualize what's needed to correct my problem. Where do these parts go (I know in the rear) and how will this fix the problem?

Answer

The camber plates are for the front strut mounts. The eccentric bushings take place of the factory installed non-eccentric bushings in the rear trailing arms. The bushings are located where the trailing arms mount to the subframe.

Thank you for your patience! One of my rear wheels is off 1 degree. Will these bushings adjust this much. Also, I recall once seeing an answer that there was something that could also work but had to be welded in place. Do you know what they might have been referring to?

I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you.

I'm not sure what kind of kit would be weld on. I'm not really sure what would be welded other than tabs to adjust the trailing arms.

I have seen a few of the kits offered on bavarian autosport installed and they should be able to adjust the camber in more than 1 degree.
