Question

It sounds like inside an electrical pump is struggling to start/drawing a lot of power. The fan is running on the unit but no cold air inside the house. The unit seems like it is struggling to get started.

I did notice the lights dim a little but yeah I think that there is a serious draw it sounds like its struggling to get going and not going on max. Yes an outdoor unit.

Answer

Hi,

It sounds like the compressor is starting hard or not at all. It can be a matter of installing a hard start kit but may also be a failed compressor. Unfortunately It will require a service call to make the diagnosis, I would be prepared for an expensive repair / replacement if it can't be corrected with a hard start kit ( not likely ).

Thanks

Mark
