Question

I am using an a union electrician, plumber, and carpenter (finishing) to help me with the last leg of my renovation for an upcoming appraisal. Currently paying 15% on 300k! Unfortunately the kitchen, well the whole house was such a disaster especially the kitchen that I saved that for last. When I'm broke, out of patience etc... I did however, completely (except for the kitchen renovate a 3/2 ranch on one acred in San Jose CA for under 30k! New everything up to installing a smart home system myself.
Sorry but it's been really rough all around but now the carpenter wants to put in the pergo laminate flooring (that looks like stone) before we demo the counters, strip and paint the entire kitchen cabinets and tile the walls etc.. I was under the impression that only if yo were putting completely new cabinets in you should install the floor first? He says he's going to put plastic and painters paper down but I am not convinced it's the right thing. Can you tell me your thoughts on this?

Hi XXXXXXX
Flooring is always the last segment of the job. Of course there are exceptions to every rule but your job doesn't sound like one of them. The work should proceed on your terms not your sub-contractor's. Plastic and paper won't protect the floor from a dropped tool. If your carpenter insists tell him he can install the floor out of sequence if he will guarantee the floor will survive intact and you will defer payment until it does survive.
