Question

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.   The passenger side power window will not go up or down from either the driver's control nor the passenger side control.

Sounds like a issue with the motor for the window. You have to remove door panel then check for power at the motor is its got power than replace the motor steps below.. Thanks

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. IMPORTANT: When removing a door trim panel or switch plate, disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will eliminate the possibility of shorting out the switch if you use a screwdriver, an awl, or other metal object in order to remove the switch from the harness.
  2. Remove the front door warning reflector.
  3. Remove the door panel screw (3) through the hole in the door warning reflector opening.
  4. Remove the screw (2) from the arm-rest pull handle.
  5. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to pry the front door switch bezel assembly upward. Apply inboard pressure against the rear retaining clip.
  6. Disconnect:
    • Power door lock switch connector, if equipped.
    • Power window switch, connector if equipped.
    • Power mirror switch, connector if equipped (left side only).
  1. Remove the front door switch bezel.
  2. Remove the door panel screw (1) through the switch bezel opening.
  3. Remove the window regulator handle, if equipped.
  4. Use a flat bladed tool in order to remove the rear deck release switch bezel.
  5. Disconnect the rear deck release switch connector.
  6. Gently disengage the door trim panel retaining clips.
  7. Remove the door trim panel from the door.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Install the front door trim panel to the door. Ensure that all of the trim panel retainers are secured.
  2. Install the inside door handle bezel.
  3. Connect the rear deck release connector.
  4. Install the rear deck release switch bezel. Press the bezel firmly into place.
  5. Install the window regulator handle to the door.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
  1. Install the door trim panel screw (1) through the switch bezel opening. Tighten Tighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  2. Connect:
    • Power door lock switch connector, if equipped.
    • Power window switch connector, if equipped.
    • Power mirror switch connector, if equipped.
  1. Install the front door switch bezel assembly to the front door trim panel.
  2. Install the door trim panel screw (2) to the arm-rest pull handle. Tighten Tighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  3. Install the door panel screw (3) through the hole in the front door warning reflector. Tighten Tighten the door trim panel screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  4. Install the front door warning reflector.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

 



 

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Motor and actuator must be removed as an assembly. Do not attempt separation of motor and actuator. Replacement parts are not available separately.

  1. Remove the door Trim panel.
  2. Remove the electrical connection from the power window motor.
  3. Remove the power window motor retaining bolts.
  4. Remove the power window motor assembly from the vehicle.

  1. Install the power window motor assembly to the vehicle. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
  2. Install the power window motor retaining bolts. Tighten Tighten the power window motor retaining bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in) .
  3. Install the electrical connector to the power window motor.
  4. Install the door trim panel.
