Of your two drive belts, are they both loose? Is the transaxle the original one or has it been upgraded?
Are both belts still loose?
The spring on the idler for the small belt goes straight forward and hooks to a bolt or a hole in the frame if it hasn't had the update kit installed. That spring will be XXX-XXXX.
XXX-XXXX hooks to the idler bracket on the long belt and goes to the clutch pedal.
Is this how you have them hooked up?
not sure , have to go check
will be tomorrow before i will know for sure
I replaced all belts but dont have deck connected yet
have already spend $250. on this piece of #%#
There have been a number of problems with them and there was a redesign of the transaxle and the small belt idler set-up for many models. There is an adjustment for tightening the main belt on the main idler. It's a threaded rod with a couple of adjustment nuts. It will take a little slack out of the belt, but really is just good for slight slippage.
Check it and let me know what you find and we'll go from there. Thanks, PK.
Are you talking about the transmission drive belt? There is no bolt or any place that one may have been to connect the XXX-XXXX spring and the only hole it could hook to is too far away. That spring would be way over streched! Do you think that the reason it goes so slow could be because of what appears to be a brake that is engaged on the right side pulley on the deck. Will it be disengaged once i put it back on . I dont know but it looks like another spring is missing there with no place to attach it.
On the idlers for the long drive belt, is there not a spring going to the motion pedal?
There are no brakes on the drive pulleys. On the mower deck, the blade pulleys have brakes. Are these what you're referring to?
Is there anything connecting the idler on the long belt to the motion pedal?
Where do you have the spring for the idler on the small belt attached?
XXX-XXXX is for the idler on the small belt and goes either to a bolt that's sticking out just for this or a hole in the frame. If it hasn't been updated, it goes almost straight towards the front, actually at 11 o'clock. If it has been updated, it goes to the 9 o'clock to a bolt that sticks up.
You'll have to find the spot where the spring connected. If you have the idler pulley for the small drive belt on the right-hand side of the mower, it goes pretty much straight ahead of the large pulley on the transaxle, look for where the spring was connected. Keep in mind that the spring sits at the 11 o'clock of the pulley and you should be able to see where some wear is from where it hooked up. Some have a bolt, some a hole in the frame. If it had a bolt, then you can just install a new bolt.
I have to run out and pick up my Son but I'll be back on here in an hour or so.
