I own a late 90's model jacobsen hr 5111. It has a hydraulic leak in the front mower deck the middle mowing unit. I have an estimate that it needs a new engine for $800, I believe that it needs the seal replaced. Because I am a petite female I think the person was full of baloney and wanted me to replace the small front mower deck engine. Help. Victoria XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Can you give me the model number of the mower?

I cant see why they would be telling you you need a new engine because of a hyd leak.

Is it leaking Hyd oil or engine oil?

Does the engine run ok?

It's a golf course type lawn mower the model is jacobsen hr5111. It is leaking hydraulic oil in the front spindel motor that spins clockwise. the part number is XXXXXXX. the engine runs great. I can mow 5 acres in about 1.5 hour.

Ok, I understand what you got now,

Well the dealer should be able to just install a new seal on motor , As long as the shaft that seal seals against is still good. If that shaft is worn , or messed up then just installing a new seal would not work very long. It would start leaking again, But they would need to remove the old seal and inspect the shaft first,
