Question
motor is 1997 225efi, boat is 21ft Nitro 912 Savage. The last two years I've dumped thousands of dollars at five different repair facilities trying to fix one thing. This boat has to go at least 100 yards before it will get on pad. (sometimes it won't go at all) Have tried 3 different props. Have had the powerhead removed twice, exhaust ports on heads cleaned out, thermostat changed, plugs, wires, coil packs, tps, checked to no avail. Put on jackplate tried different heighths, no improvement. Seems like it has no low-end rpms, it won't even powerload the boat on the trailer. My god this motor ought to push my boat through the back window of my truck. Please help.

hello ! Wow ... ok, did you buy this boat new? The only time I ever heard of this was what we call a miss-matched-motor. Have the gears checked in the outdrive. What make outdrive does she have? Anyways.... I saw the same thing once. A man came in after several other shops, spending his hard earned cash like you did. We found that the previous owner smashed the original outdrive. He replaced it with a "specialty" one that was from a old diesel motor. It had been geared really low for some special application. I am wondering if this could be the same scenario?

I hope I did this right. According to the window your answer was accepted. One thing I should have mentioned is the motor idles perfect and top end rpms are good at 70+ miles per hour

Answer
Yes, your fine....Let me get this straight..... Your saying that you have a 225efi outboard ,on a 21 foot Nitro. You have to go about 300ft before she gets on plane, sometimes she won't even get up at all.....yet your having a top speed of 70+ mph......
Have you had this boat into a marine facility that checks hull design? You say you already went through many props and engine check up's. There can ONLY be three things that would effect this:
mis-matched or too heavy of a motor with wrong prop,
Hull design defect
or Weight distribution on the boat!
I talked to to engineers this morning and BOTH came up with the same thing. Do you have a lot of weight in the rear of the boat and none in the front? Both agree it MUST be one of the three! Joe

actually the weight distribution might be a problem. rod lockers are empty, trolling motor can,t weigh much, nothing in front middle storage except a couple of lightweight chene anchors. Rear has four batteries, 56 gallon fuel cell, double large size livewells. Should I consider sand bags in the front center storage compartment? This motor came with this boat as package in 97. I would have thought the rigging would have been correct.

Answer
LOL Rigging correct ?!?! You can go to any boat show and 69% of the boats there are not balanced properly !! They put on what ever they think will sell. Saw a 19 CC one time, had a 470 merc I/O in her. Had a25 hp trolling motor. Saw the same boat about a month later and while still or running, she leaned to that side !
I would try about 75 to 100lbs in the front. 25 pd weights would be best. you could move them around in increments. Joe
