Info Request

Hello,

May we know what kind of unit do you have?

Is the breaker of the unit turned on? Do you have power on the unit?

Honeywell TH6320U Programmable Thermostat. Yes we have power to the unit. All the digits are shown correctly. Upstairs unit is cooling properly. This is the downstairs unit that is not cooling.

Sorry, what I meant is if there is power to the condesing unit outside for the downstair unit.

Thermostat controls the 24 volts of the magnetic contactor on the outside unit. If there is no power to this contactor, the unit will not run.

Do you have air coming out of the vents downstairs when you turn on the thermostat?

Oh I see. No the unit is not on outside......the other unit's fan is blowing. This one is completely off....it is an AMANA unit.

Ok..Thank you for that info. So even the air handling is not running. That would mean that you do not have the 24 volts on the unit to operate the A/C.

Usually, the 24 volts transformer is located in the airhandling unit? Do you access to your air handling downstairs? It should be inside the ceiling.

Do you have a volt meter to measure voltage?

II am not sure, but I think the transformer is right there by the condensor and stuff....it is all outside the house, and I do not have the volt meter to measure voltage. Since I am so new at this, can you describe what the TRANSFORMER look like on Amana, and how to measure voltage? I can purchase the volt meter (can I buy it in regular stores like home depot??) Please give me detailed instruction (I am not mechanically inclined). ALso, is it dangerous for me (non-expert) to attempt to do this?

Thanks!

Hello,

It is DANGEROUS to test voltages if you are not incline in doing this stuff.

The transformer is about 2" X 2" cube with two wires on each side. One side would be the primary which could be 220-240 volts ac and the other pair would be the secondary which should be 24 Volts.

If you can trace this secondary wires, it usually goes to a resettable fuse which you can reset if it is tripped.

This set of wires usually goes to a terminal block with small wires attached to them and you can see the labels R, G, W Y .
