We have an American Standard Thermostat that is approx. 3-4 years old. We are having problems programming it. It automatically jumps to different temperatures thur out the day and night. We can't change the automatic program. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I have been told by friends that sometimes there is a battery in the unit. I have no idea where that might be. The manual that the installer gave us is not detail enough for us to understand. Can you help me? Thank you for you prompt response. XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX

Hello,

The problem you describe is not from low battery or power.

The logic is going bad within the thermostat and the unit must be replaced.

Do we need to replace it with the exact same thermostat? Where do we get these thermostats? and are they simple to replace?

You can replace with a vast variety of thermostats. If you give me the model number I can tell you what to look for.

I am sorry I do not see a Model # on the unit and the small brochure the installer gave us I have misplaced. Does the unit open in any way to show me the Model #?

I have a 16 seer Heat Pump.

Also, some of these are tricky....you may want to call to have a service man install one for you unless you know someone fairly handy.
