Question

My inside coil is freezing up. I had a local service tech, check it out and he said " 65/193 temperature split 18 degrees 78 degree return. Unit charge is right on withcharging chart."

After he left, the inside coil froze up in a few hours?

Answer

Hello,

The the unit can freeze given any of the following..

dirty filter
dirty evaporator coil
low blower/restriction
low on refrigerant
Bad thermal expansion valve

The reading we need to know is the superheat (or subcooling if txv)

I would look for numbers higher than what was written.

If the outdoor temp is equal to or higher than your indoor temp I est more around 70-75 on the suction pressure....which you are reading 65. Once you get to 60 and below you begin to freeze.

I think he needs another look at it...or another tech needs to look at it.

Depending on the superheat...sounds like it is low.
