my girlfriend started yaz 3 months ago and has been having irregular periods. one month she thought she started her period during the middle of her active pills. but it ended up just being spotting. last month her period didn't start until the end of the third day and only lasted a few days. and this month she has completly missed her period and so she is freaking out and i am trying to find out any info possible to try and calm her down so any input would greatly be appreciated

Answer

Greetings.

The Yaz birth control pills (or as a matter any birth control pill) when started, do give breakthrough bleeding or irregular periods in fraction of women. This sometimes can continue for 3-6 months in some women. This is not problematic and one needs to continue the pills regularly as scheduled, and usually in most of the women the irregularity or breakthrough bleeding stops in 3 months, so hopefully she should be regular from next month onwards. Please read this resource (see the side effect section in which irregular periods are mentioned);

so more than likely she is not pregnant and that i should tell everything is ok and that its normal for this to happen for the first several months, cuz she's worried because she has never missed a single pill and takes them first thing in the morning every day

Hello,

She is unlikely to be pregnant and the irregularity is quite common as I mentioned. So no worry on that count.
