Question

I am replacing my Badger ISE disposal with a new Evolution Compact. I have turned off the power and disconnected the plumbing. I am trying to remove the disposal with the wrench provided by pushing the disposal up and turning it counterclockwise. It will not budge. Is there another way to get the old one off?

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX.

At thew top of the disposal is a locking ring with 3 loops.
You need to get under the sink with a channel lock pliers( Regular pliers not enough leverage, If not a channel lock pliers then a big vice grip.
) Turn the locking ring by grabbing one of the 3 loops on it above the dispose, counter clockwise direction from your position under the sink and under the disposer.
The disposer will fall out on your belly or chest if you are under it!!!!

HOLD IT WITH one hand so it does not fall in your face.

Hi,
I have tried that already. The ring does not move. I have tried a crowbar, hammer and screwdriver, putting a pipe over the wrench to increase leverage. It doesn't budge. In fact the loops on the ring have bent. I think it is stuck though it is not rusty.

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX.

Are you lying on your back and turning it counter clock wise WITH a CHANNEL lock Pliers.
It only has to turn an inch or so.
Some times I use two Channel lock pliers.
One in each hand on tow different loops.
You are trying to turn the top ring loops and not the disposer???
it should not be so hard

If you do not have a big and long Channel lock pliers, then you may not succeed .
A Crow BAR?

It may be time for you to use an experienced plumber .
Most home owners have this problem!

I was able to get the disposer off by moving it back and forth until it came off. I still cannot get the ring off with two channel lock pliers so I cannot remove the assembly to put the new one back.

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX.
So the old gasket wash holding it on and you wiggled it back and forth and got it out.

Get a can of WD40 and then com back in 5 minutes.
Do not use to much AND HAVE IT DRIP IN YOUR EYES.
Now you need to get back on your back with two channel locks and continue to try to turn it counter clock wise.

No dice. No movement whatsoever. In fact the tab broke off. I have it off now. I loosened the three screws and freed up the assembly. Then I bent up all the sides of the flange in the sink and let it drop through. There has to be a better way to take this off. i think the plumber that installed it put epoxy there or something because even now that I have it off I cannot separate it. It is not rusted at all, only about 4 years old.

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX.

I think you may be right .
That the plumber may have put epoxy too.
If so he was a moron. Don't you think?

I've never had such a difficult time to remove one!!!

Did you get the new one in?
