Question
I am using In Design 3.0.1 on a Mac running 10.5.6. I thought that I was at least an intermediate In Design user, but am being driven crazy by a NEW problem. The page numbering does not work anymore. The main thing is that book numbering does not seem to work. I read somewhere that there was a problem with the numbering and that the work around was to set the program preference to section numbering. This made it a little better. Basically continuous numbering does not work.
Possibly a related problem is that when I alter the size of an image in a document using the percentage window at the top, the object changes size appropriately, but the percentage then displays again as 100% although the size has been altered. This did not work this way in the past. Indeed, when I open an old document and click on an image, the adjusted size shows in the window, but if I change it again it then operates as described above. Please help.

Hello,
If InDesign starts acting up like this I trash it's preferences. To do that, quit InDesign.
Open a Finder window by clicking on the smiling face icon in the lower left of the Dock.
Click on your Home folder.
Open the Library folder.
Open Preferences folder.
There could be 3 Adobe folders in the preferences folder. I have 2 that affect InDesign . There is one called Adobe. There is another called Adobe InDesign.
Throw these 2 folders in the trash. All of your specific settings in InDesign will have to be reset after you do this. But, this is what you have to do when things go wrong with InDesign.
I would also Repair Permissions with Disk Utility in the Applications/Utilities folder.
If this doesn't work, you'll need to throw away the application and reinstall it.
Let us know how this goes,
Rob

Hello Rob,
I was hoping for a magic bullet. I had thought of reinstalling, but of course do not know where the discs are. I will try your suggestions. I they do not work, I will have to buy the newest version. That probably would not hurt me anyway (but I am cheap). This Just Ask thing is interesting. I hope that you get lots of work this way!

If you don't have the restore disks for InDesign and want to buy it again or a newer version, try buying on eBay. You'll get better prices but make sure they are original Adobe disks and not copied disks. Copied disks may not work or may not activate. Thanks for the accept.
