Hello,

A few questions so I'll know what you are talking about.

Where is the negative symbol on the keyboard?

What key is it beside?

Is it actually on the keyboard or showing up on screen?

Thanks for giving us this info,

Rob

I am trying to program a TI-84+se calculator using a program called TI connect which runs on a mac 10.4.11. there are two - symbols on the calculator one called the negative symbol(shorter than minus symbol)and one the regular minus symbol which is on the keyboard next to the zero. i have looked in all the TI connect software looking for the negative symbols but when I try to use them the calculator see them as minus and the program blows. The thought occurred to me was "can I somehow get the shorter negative symbol out of the keyboard"

Answer

Hello,

The only way I know to disable a key (and this isn't actually disabling it) is to use the key in this way:

Open System Preferences and click on Speech. Click the Text To Speech button near the top right of the window. Put a check mark beside:

Speak Selected Text When The Key Is Pressed

Click the Set Key button to the right of that statement. When the drop down window drops press the - key just to the right of the zero key. Click OK and see if this works.

what will i get on the screen when i press the key next to the zero key

Answer

You won't get anything. It makes that key not work until you go back and uncheck that check mark in System Preferences/Speech.
