Answer

Hi, XXXXXXXX.

It would be best to have your kitty evaluated in person by her vet, to determine the cause of the sore and get the best treatment, which won't harm the babies.

It is not recommended to give antibiotics or any medication to your cat (especially a pregnant cat) without a vet prescribing it.

Here is information about Amoxicillin, for example:

http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/amoxicillin/page1.aspx

The sore on her lip may be related to herpes, a rodent ulcer, a scratch from another cat (if she is in contact with other cats and/or 'critters'), feline acne, and a myriad of other possible conditions, but the fact that it smells bad and seems infected, is quite serious. If finances are preventing you from bringing her to the vet, try www.carecredit.com, which will allow you to pay out the fee in installments, if you're approved. They give instant decisions, in most cases, online.

I hope all will be well with your furry girl and she has a beautiful and healthy litter.

Hi again, kenica, and thanks for your reply.

Depending upon which antibiotics are appropriate for the condition found, a vet might prescribe antibiotics for your cat, but this would have to be determined at the in-person examination.

"Cats should not receive vaccinations or deworming medications while pregnant. Insecticides, tapeworm medications, chemical flea control products, hormones, and antibiotics should also not be used during pregnancy unless recommended or approved by a veterinarian."

Each individual case is different, so until she's seen by the vet, I can't say whether it would be safe or not safe for her to be prescribed antibiotics. If it is deemed that the medication will not adversely affect her or her babies, and is necessary to clear up this lip condition, the safest antibiotic during pregnancy will be given. If it's decided that the sore can be treated in another way which is safer for her health and that of the babies, it will be given.

For the moment, gently dab the sore with hydrogen peroxide, pat dry, and apply a thin film of Neosporin antibiotic cream or ointment (plain, NOT with the 'pain' component) on it, until she can see the vet on Monday.

Try to keep her inside or at least in a safe place like your yard, outside, so you can avoid further injuries from other cats, at all times, but especially during her pregnancy.
