Question

I have a 17 year-old healthy Cocker Spaniel. I want to add prepared raw food into his diet - any suggestions or thoughts on the subject?

Answer

This is usually not recommened for senior dogs due to the digestive upset that can go along with that from all the bacteria in the food.

While a younger dog might do OK with the 'cleansing' as the digestive upset is often called by advocates of the raw diet a more senior dog may not do as well.

I'd talk it over with your vet and if your dog is healthy and with no immune system problems or other compromising health issues you could try a commercial raw diet but you may want to rethink it if your dog gets ill.

Hope this helps you!
