I have an '07 Optima with less than 16K miles. There is a high pitched hum or whine noise intermittently, but not constantly. Could this be a wheel bearing, and if so, would it be covered under the warranty? I'm a second owner, not original owner - but should have the basic 60K warranty, right?

I asked on another website what the whining noise could be and was told it could be a wheel bearing. With so few miles on the car, if that's what it is, I should hope it is covered under the warranty. If it could be something else, I'd also like to know what it could be.

I only hear it after getting up to highway speed - 55 or better, and haven't noticed it getting louder; in fact, it usually goes away after awhile.

The only thing I can tell you is remember what the conditions are when the noise is there and be able to duplicate it for the dealer. Yes, this will be covered under your warranty but the dealer has to hear the noise to be able to diagnose it. The first step in our diagnose procedure is to verify the complaint. Under warranty? Definatetly, as long as you can make it happen.
